The headline matchup of the night goes to the Webb City Lady Cardinals as the defeat Nixa 61-46 in the showdown of state ranked squads. Hailey Roderique lead the way in scoring with 21 points for Webb City. Kaitlin Jaeger registered a double double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and blocked 6 shots. And I attended a strong ‘Game of the Year’ candidate as the Richland Bears welcomed Frisco League rival Licking in for Homecoming. The Wildcat’s Ben Denbow registered a double double with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Josh Hood scored 28. Richland countered with guard Pat Poston scoring 38, but it was Jacob Shelton’s jumper from the wing as the buzzer sounded that game the Bears a 91-90 win. BASKETBALL BOYS Varsity
It’s a night for overtime on the boys side as three games see bonus basketball. Marshfield needs every one of Utah Findley’s 28 points and Jared Greenlee’s 24 to down Catholic 63-61 in OT. State ranked Spokane recovers from a furious Clever rally to win in extra period 66-60 behind Dylan Price’s 29 points. Fair Play continues their strong season with an extra period 69-61 win over Morrisville. And Pierce City and Lockwood enjoyed playing each other so much they decided to go two extra periods before the Eagles win 62-60. One game that didn’t go into overtime may serve as the coming out party for one of the underrated boys players I mentioned earlier today. Mt. Vernon wins a great game tonight as they travel to Willard and defeat the Tigers 56-54. Zack Kleine is the star scoring 32 for the Mountaineers as they get a rod win against a good Willard squad. On the ladies side, Miller and Ash Grove will meet for the third time in three weeks in the Lady Comet Invitational at Marionville. Ash Grove overcame a scoreless first quarter and caught Cassville in the fourth to win 48-40. The Lady Pirates got 25 points from Kaile Weinreis. While Miller got 38 from Hannah Wilkerson as they defeated Billings 75-53. BASKETBALL BOYS Spokane Tournament

A very interesting evening of girls basketball last night. Conway already had a couple of good wins on the year. Now they’ve added a great win as they knocked off Fair Grove 47-44. Parkview continues to impress as they win over MacDonald County 73-52 behind Emily Akin’s 25 points. New Covenant’s Charlotte Vernier had the big scoring performance of the night netting 41 as the Lady Warriors downed Niangua 68-33. But it’s Morrisville’s Kasey Painter that had the best game of the evening. She registered a triple double of 20 points, 15 assists, and 13 steals as they defeated Everton 83-49. Now most of you know that Joboo loves me some small school ball. And that I keep an eye out for up & coming talent. With that in mind, I headed to Sarcoxie last night to catch the Everton Lady Tigers and Jessica Holland. She of the triple double to start the season. I arrived a little late and by the time I got settled in, Everton was already down by double digits. But they started to hit some shots, applied the press, and started to chip away at the lead. Holland at 5′ 9″ had a few inches on the Sarcoxie guards and decent speed, allowing her to go inside and outside pretty confidently. Sarcoxie lead 24-18 at the half and I had Holland for 8 points in the time I had been watching. In the second half, foul trouble and an injury to starter Linsey Denney kept Everton from throwing the pressure back on. But sophomore Paige Limpus hit for 9 second half points to help them pull within 2 starting the fourth. In the final frame, Sarcoxie’s solid backcourt took care of the ball, took advantage of the Everton foul trouble, and started penetrating to score. Holland had 9 more in the second half, but the Lady Bears got scoring from 5 different players to finish with the 47-37 win. No seniors on Everton’s squad and there is some potential there. Keep an eye on them as the year moves along, and next year. |
