Big win tonight on the soccer pitch for Greenwood as the knock off last year’s class 2 runner up Bolivar 2-1. Matt Magana registered a first half goal to give the Liberators a 1-0 halftime lead. But Greenwood rallied in the second half shutting out Bolivar while getting the tying goal from Stuart Beezley. Then Devon Whitlock came through with the game winner. Nice early season win for the Blue Jays.

Last week of the regular season for boys soccer and we get the always entertaining Glendale/Kickapoo rivalry. This night it belongs to Kickapoo as the Chiefs overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit as first Aaron Strunk, then Ian Kennedy found the back of the net to give Kickapoo the 2-1 victory. Final regular season games for most volleyball teams in the area as districts start Monday. State ranked squads Republic and College Heights both get wins. Republic defeats Buffalo in straight sets 25-22, 25-14 with Jordan Jones leading the way with 18 assists. Alex Botkin gets 14 digs for the Tigers also. Class 2 College Heights downs class 4 Neosho in two sets 25-16, 25-28.

District soccer got under way this weekend with class 1 district 6 and class 2 district 5 action. Aurora and Laquey won Friday games to start the weekend. Aurora then had to face top seed Bolivar and put up a game fight before falling 2-0. Monett and Greenwood both go for double digits in their district openers. Games resume Monday in all classes.
