5/18/10 District Baseball Report

Class 3 district 11 finally got underway and Travis Northern wasted no time in tossing a gem, throwing a no hitter to lead the Wildcats to a 15-0 win over Hollister.  Cassville will next take on Bolivar who was a 6-1 winner over Reeds Spring.

Ozark rides a Trevor Burk 3 run dinger and strong pitching from Cody Holzer and Andy Westfall to a 3-1 win over West Plains.  Nice report from the News-Leader including the 5th inning drama if you click on the link below.  The Tigers advance to face Kickapoo who got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Lopez to defeat Parkview 6-2.

Norwood knocks off #2 seed and defending state champion Dora decisively with a 16-4 victory.  The Pirates will face top seed Galena for the district championship as the Bears dealt Bakersfield a 10-0 defeat.

And in Jasper at the class 1 district 6 tournament, sixth seed Golden City continued their upset string.  Monday they knocked off #3 seed Jasper.  Last night the Eagles eliminated #2 seed Greenfield with a 15-9 win.  Next up, top seed Billings who was a 6-3 winner over Wheaton.

4/13/10 Scores

Great matchup at Strafford tonight on the diamond as Stockton plates 7 runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat a strong Strafford squad 9-5.  Conner Wilson had 2 home runs for the Indians but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers pounded out 13 hits.  Six of which went for extra bases including a home run for Josh Baker and 2 doubles for Kevin Martin.

In other action, a couple of great pitching duels were waged.  Purdy’s Landon Terry and Wheaton’s Kyle Robbins both went the distance and walked no one.  But the two RBIs from Purdy’s Reese Stevenson were the difference as Purdy won 2-0.  And Ash Grove and Pleasant Hope waged a great Mid-Lakes battle with  Ash Grove coming out on the good side of a 2-1 score.

And I think we have our football score of the year as Macks Creek defeats Hermitage 33-28 in a game that featured 36 hits, 29 walks, 16 errors, and 5 lead changes.  Five different Pirates had 3 hits or more as Macks Creek scores 11 in the 1st, 12 in the 2nd,and 8 in the 6th to win the game.

Class 3 Show-Me Bowl Review & Analysis

Many times at the end of the season, the team that ends up #1 has people question them.  Usually by using ‘IFs’.  For example, statements like this were made about last Cassville state title run last year.  IF they hadn’t changed the playoff system, they wouldn’t have even made it.  IF Harrisonville was still in class 3 they wouldn’t have won.  IF Chillicothe hadn’t missed that extra point, they would have won instead.  Some people might say that IF Centrailia hadn’t lost to Brentwood, they would have beat Maryville in the championship.  Sometimes the ‘IFs’ are true statements, but they’ alsore in the past and can’t be changed.  But to some people, they will always leave a question mark on a teams accomplishments.
