And we have almost all of our district champions decided now as Thursday’s games featured some bonus soccer and a fabulous game winner. Catholic and Greenwood were two of the teams to go to overtime as they were scoreless at the end of regulation. But in the OT, Catholic’s Josh Moncada picked off a pass just beyond midfield, made a brilliant run into the box, wove his way through 3 defenders, and slotted a left footed shot into the left side netting to win the district title for the Irish. Make sure to check out the Springfield Soccer link below for three different views of the game winner.
Both class 3 district finals played also went to OT. Camdenton’s Travis Miller broke a scoreless tie in the 104th minute to give the Lakers the district title over third seeded Rolla. And Carthage and Joplin went even further as it took until the 107th minute before a Carthage corner kick was deflected in off a Joplin defender to give Carthage the 1-0 victory.
