Webb City-St. Charles West semi-final preview

In one way, this game is the same as the last 2 for Webb City. The team they are facing is very guard oriented. But that comparison would be unfair to SCW. Because 1, they are extremely guard oriented & 2, they have 3 of the best pure shooters in the state. Check out these stats.
- Alex Bazzell - 11.5 ppg, 52.85 FG%, 62 3FG, 45.59 3FG%
- Brian Maurer - 12.5 ppg, 56.57 FG%, 43 3FG, 51.81 3FG%
and last but not least
- Kramer Soderberg - 24.7 ppg, 65.60 FG%, 58 3FG, 47.54 3FG%
Yikes! The team has a 57.72 FG% and a 44.95 3FG%. That is some serious firepower. And while the majority of the points come from the guards they do have some size. They have players 6′3″, 6′4″, 6′4″, 6′5″, 6′6″, & 6′6″ to throw into the fray giving them lots of fouls to give on inside players. They maximize their scoring chances & play a solid defense. To top all this off, they’ve shown the same kind of end game poise that Webb City has, so that advantage is negated. The teams that have had the most success against them this year have had good nights from 3 land, which doesn’t play into Webb City’s hands. And they present balanced scoring options, which does. With 5 regulars averaging in double figures, there is no focal point on offense. No one has had great success against SCW in the paint, but I don’t think they’ve seen an interior passing game like the Cardinals possess this year. Webb City should have an advantage inside both scoring & rebounding. They’ll need Alan Pink & Caleb Powell to exploit that as much as possible. Overall I think Webb City matches up well & has a great chance in this game. The quality of 3 point shooting from both teams is probably the biggest factor.
3 keys for Webb City
- Contest every shot. The Warriors are going to get their shots. Webb City needs to limit the open looks as much as possible.
- Be efficient on offense. Make the most of each possession like SCW does or the game could get out of hand.
- Work the inside game. Good interior passing plus weaker than usual opposition inside should equal some easy baskets.
